The results of the one-week intensive workshop, 10 student products, present a fresh and unconventional thought how to cope with given spatial phenomena’s and urban challenges. The teams were exploring what would need to change in space, governance and economy to guide the shift towards a decentralized energy and overall shift to more sustainable planning. The aim is to think beyond borders, overcome a steady state situation and stimulate thoughts on new pathways.
The objectives of the workshop included:
- Understanding the Vision of “Positive Energy Districts” in general;
- Repeating a workflow that was practised in an existing research project (H2020 Making City);
- … that includes realizable transformations on the dimensions of heat, electricity and mobility;
- using methods from integrated spatial and energy planning, GIS and PED Governance;
- understanding that not everything can be optimized anywhere, but to judge planning variations per settlement that may carry positive environmental and social impacts.
